share this :

Wondering why your local business only has a few Google reviews, even though you have been in business for years? Are your competitors outranking you on Google because they have 10x more positive reviews than you? You are not alone, and it is frustrating! Among the various platforms, Google My Business (GMB) stands out as a crucial hub for customer feedback. Positive reviews on GMB not only boost your local SEO but also build trust and credibility. Let’s dive into some effective strategies to garner more reviews on Google My Business, helping you enhance your online presence and attract more customers!

Optimize Your Google My Business Profile

Before you start actively seeking reviews, ensure that your GMB profile is fully optimized. Complete all relevant information, including your business hours, contact details, and a compelling business description. Having your name, address, and phone number listed accurately is actually a ranking factor. A well-crafted profile not only improves your chances of appearing in local searches but also makes a positive impression on potential reviewers.

Simply Ask for Reviews

One of the most direct ways to secure reviews is by asking satisfied customers in person. Train your staff to politely request feedback at the end of a positive interaction. Ensure they emphasize the value of customer reviews in supporting the business. A personal request can often lead to more immediate responses. If you are not face-to-face with your clients after your work is completed, send them an email asking for a review with a link provided. Express how impactful a review is for your business. Most people are happy to help! I recently had some drywall work completed, and as a follow up, the owner sent me a personalized message asking if I was happy with the work, and if so, please provide a review of my experience. This was a simple gesture that guaranteed a review (well, in my case it did!).

Leverage Email Marketing

Utilize your email marketing strategy to request reviews from your existing customer base. Send out a friendly email expressing your gratitude for their business and kindly ask for their feedback on Google My Business. Include a direct link to your GMB profile to make the process as seamless as possible. Add that same link to your email signature as well to make it easy to find and always present.

Create a Review Landing Page

Build a dedicated landing page on your website that guides customers through the review process. This page can include step-by-step instructions, visuals, and a direct link to your GMB profile. Make it easy for customers to share their experiences with others by reducing any friction in the review process.

Timing Matters

Timing is crucial when asking for reviews. Send your requests when customers are likely to be most satisfied, such as after a successful transaction, positive customer service experience, or upon completion of a project. Avoid soliciting reviews during times of potential dissatisfaction, such as after resolving a complaint. As in my drywall example above, the owner sent his follow up about a week after the work was completed to ensure the job was complete and left enough time pass so that there were no complaints from my end.

Incentivize Reviews Responsibly

Consider offering a small incentive to customers who take the time to leave a review. This could be a discount on their next purchase or entry into a giveaway. However, ensure your approach aligns with ethical standards and platform guidelines to avoid any negative consequences. It is also common to make review earning a competition in the office or in the field. Offer a $100 giftcard to the employee who earns the most 5-star reviews for the month. This can be a win-win for your business.

Utilize Social Media

Leverage your social media platforms to encourage reviews on Google My Business. Share success stories, highlight positive customer experiences, and include a call-to-action inviting followers to share their thoughts on your GMB profile. Social media can serve as a powerful amplifier for your review-gathering efforts.

Respond to Existing Reviews

Engaging with existing reviews demonstrates your commitment to customer satisfaction. Respond promptly and professionally to both positive and negative reviews. This not only fosters a positive relationship with the reviewer but also signals to other customers that their feedback is valued. Be sure to reply with helpful responses. Do not let your ego get in the way of future business by attacking a reviewer. Here are some helpful review response templates

Regularly monitor your GMB profile to stay on top of new reviews. Use this information to analyze trends, identify areas for improvement, and refine your approach to gathering reviews. Understanding customer sentiments can guide your overall business strategy and enhance the customer experience.
